Healthy Harold visits Grade 3/4

On Friday the 15th of October, Healthy Harold visited the class learning about:

  1. What are special conditions requiring medication?
  2. What are healthy drugs?
  3. What should be on the label?
  4. How different types for healthy drugs can be taken.

We also learnt about  passive, aggressive and confident behaviour. It is especially important when making new friends to "play by the rule" and not be bossy just like Harold!

Mana Performance by Sascha

Last week we had our whole school performance. During the week Mana man taught us lots of dances in the performance arts room, for example my group 3/4B were practising an action dance and a canoe dance. On Friday during school we had a whole school workshop to figure out where we were going to be seated and the order of when we were to perform.

On Friday night we had the big performance at Coburg High. All the 3/4 classes had to wear black and white skirts made out of garbage bags. At the beginning, the whole school performed a welcome dance called the Sasa to the audience. 3/4A performed a dance with Poi’s (balls on string), 3/4B performed an action song and a canoe song, and 3/4C performed a song with sign language called Paradise. The last 3 acts were in the dark. Bernard did a fantastic dance at the end which impressed the crowd of about 600 people watching.

Stick Insects

Something special happened this term. We received some Stick

Insects for our classroom. These are Crowned Stick Insects and there

are 21 altogether living inside the glass tank.  Their tank is filled with

the food that they eat which is mostly Eucalyptus leaves as well as

some old skin and droppings.

Last week, the students all helped in putting the stick insects onto

new leaves and some of the students freaked out when they saw the

insects crawling! The pre-service teachers also liked the stick insects.

I like the stick insects in the classroom because it has brightened up

the area.

So come and check them out!

Inter-school Sports Grand Final

Inter-school Sports Grand Final

In term one the Moreland Primary School Basketball team had the opportunity to play in the Grand Final. We played against Saint Bernards. The last time we played against Saint Fidelis we tied 15 to 15.

In the Grand Final it was a close game. Saint Fidelis had got off to a good start in the first half. In the second half we started to make a come back and started to score some goals. Unfortunately in the end we lost, but at the end of the day the other team was the better side.

If I had to say who was the best player on the night it would have to have been Arjun and Oliver. They both played really well.

A special thank you to Marcus for coaching the team and also to Elijah’s dad for coaching us on day of the final. Unfortunately Marcus couldn’t make it to the final because he had broken his ribs.

Behind the News

Science Week

Grade 3/4’s has been writing and watching B.T.N, which stands for Behind The News. One of the episodes we have watched talked about Science Week. Primary school students Ella and Gigi from another school were investigating as to why onions make you cry. Another student, William also had an investigation as to why is seaweed brown.

Our Grade 3/4 class loves watching BTN and if you too would like to find out these answers then visit our Grade 3/4 Wiki and select the 3rd term B.T.N. and click on the website.

Pentathlon

The grade 3/4s have been watching a show for kids called BTN (Behind The News.) The episode I liked the most was the Pentathlon Siblings – Episode #22. It was about a brother and sisters, who are both athletes wishing to compete in the 2016 Olympics.

They wanted to compete for a sport called pentathlon, events that are necessary for soldier to enlist in the army. The events include running, swimming, shooting, horse riding and fencing. The brother and sister are really good at it.

Following this we had to answer five questions after we had watched it working with a partners. The people who had the best work had it copied onto the quality work wall.
