Where is Henry the Hippo this week?
By Haname and Aliah, Year 4’s

Henry would like to tell you about the Chinese zodiacs
as part of the Lunar New Year.
The Chinese zodiacs are the goat/sheep, rabbit, ox, rooster, pig, tiger, monkey, rat/mice, snake, dragon, dog and horse.
We made animal moneyboxes and lanterns.
We also worked on an animal zodiac sheet.
We had to write about our birthday and what year we were born in.
We wrote the characteristics of our animal too!
Henry was born in the year of the monkey! What year do you think that was?

Newspaper scavenger hunt
By Noah and Kristo, Year 4’s

One day this week in class, our teachers told us that we had to have a scavenger hunt in a newspaper.
We had to look for different things like the main heading on the front page and the editorial page
and use the contents page.
The activity was fun as we enjoyed making are own front page.
There were a lot of great ideas using pages, kidpix and keynote.
There was serious news, funny news and some sad news.

ROCKET WRITING

These are some of the "Rocket Writing" by the Kids in 3/4. Every Monday morning we have 45 minutes to write a narrative using a sentence starter. Can you guess the sentence starter for these five stories?

Flying pig
by Sabin, Year 4
I looked out the window and saw a flying pig. I thought that I was hallucinating and I pinched myself. It turned out it was reality! I explained about the flying pig to my friends, Boso and Dozo. Dozo thought I was dreaming but Boso knew what I was talking about because he was the smart one. Boso told us a story about Joso the flying pig. He also told us that he was endangered because of hunters.

One rainy day, a hunter saw Joso and tried to capture him. The hunter targeted Joso’s leg. The hunter shot straight and hit his right leg. Joso flew fast as he could and crashed into a house like a flying potato. Fortunately, he landed into Boso’s house. Boso invited us over and D was shocked to see a flying pig that his mouth was open like a gate.

The flying pig was resting for weeks until he finally woke up! He told us that he would be our pet forever. When we heard a flying pig talk it was like a unicorn shooting out a rainbow, basically it’s crazy. Joso’s leg  recovered and we all visited Joso every weekend.

I am a survivor
by Noah, Year 4
I looked out the window and heard the frosty wind howl. I am on a convict ship for finding a handkerchief on the ground. I vomit every minute, I am very sick. I don’t even know if I’ll see my parents again. My name is Henry Salton.
Suddenly someone was lurking outside my jail cell cursing words and humming a regular tune. He surprised me by jumping onto my jail bars and cried out loud, beaming words “Get out we’re here.” His nose was deformed, he had no hair and he was dribbling on his clothes.
He pushed me with force out my cell. He chained up my hands and I walked onto the land whispering to myself “Where am I?” The guard man went back inside and then I made a run for it.
The grass moved quickly as I sprinted swiftly. Someone was watching me. Back here the ships were anchored and the guards could not find me, so they sent bloodhounds to track me down. Deep down in a cave a black figure grabbed me and ran me down deeper.
The cave never seemed to stop. Finally the black figure, friend or foe, sat me down on a rock. Soon I found out that he was trying to save me. I learnt his name was Gary and he had been the sole survivor of a shipwreck.
To be continued...

The camp
by Daniel, Year 3
It was a dark night and everybody was sleeping except Daniel. It was his first night at camp.
He scared and sleepy but he knew it would be morning soon. Daniel woke up and it was morning. He went out to look for his friend. It was day one.
He looked for the teachers to tell him about the first activity. Finally he found the teachers.
Daniel asked “What is the first activity?”
“Rock climbing” the teacher answered.
It was very hard but Daniel knew that he had to be brave

The Golden Mount Adventure
by Christian, Year 3

I was looking out the window and I saw Terry and Zak playing soccer. I went outside to watch them play. Terry was a cheeky and funny boy. George is a handsome boy and Zak is a brave boy.

Then they got a silly idea. George asked them if they wanted to travel the giant world. “Yes!!” said Terry and Zak. And off they went to travel the giant world and have lots of fun. Then they saw a shiny, big and golden mountain with a door inside.

There was a whole chunk of gold. “Do you want to get the precious gold that is inside the mountain? ”asked Zak. “But we need to find out the password for the door!” They searched on Internet and they actually found out the password and typed it on the door lock. “I am going in!” said George. George went in and he got locked and he said “HELP!!!”  Terry went back to their country to get his ball.

Then he went back and he kicked his ball into the mountain door and the door broke. They took all the shiny gold from the mountain and brought it back to their country. They lived happily ever after. That was a mysterious adventure.

The Horrible Storm
by Aaron, Year 3

It was a dark night and while I was sleeping my dad was shopping for some milk, butter, chocolate, bacon, chicken, and mango. I’m Aaron and I like chocolate, video games, LEGO, K’nex and 4WD remote car.

Suddenly I heard thunder that woke me up and I saw lighting but not white, it was red! Then the red lighting zapped so close that our house caught on fire at 30,000°C.

So I crawled out of the house through the window that’s always open, rather than opening another so it doesn’t let in more oxygen and feed the fire.

It was hailing outside. Meanwhile, while my dad was at the shops and he couldn’t go outside. I was waiting for him. Then my dad found a machine on the roof and he smashed it and the storm stopped.

Stamp Out Bullying
by Jennifer and Jamie, Year 4’s

Hi today we are going to tell you about Stamp Out Bullying.
The Stamp Out Bullying show was last Tuesday.
There was a girl called Ruth and a puppet crocodile called Croc.

Ruth was teaching us because Croc thought a bigger croc called Chris was bullying him.  She also did some magic tricks to make Croc feel a bit better. Then she got a big note pad out and drew eyes and a mouth and then it started talking about how to stop bullies from bullying. It did that by telling us what STAMP stands for:
S stands for Stay away, T stands for Tell someone, A stands for Always help, M stands for Make friends and P stands for Play nicely.
In the end, Ruth realised that Croc was bullying Chris.

Here are some photos of the show.

3D STRUCTURES

by Deakin, Grade 4

On Wednesday the 25th of March grade 3/4’s did an activity that required us to make an open-sided 3D structure out of newspaper and wool!
The Grade 3/4’s made some fantastic structures including Tepee’s and houses.

We had to choose partners: a grade 4 with a grade 3 and if you could, a boy with a girl. Most boys didn’t go with a girl but all grade 4’s went with a grade 3.

You and your partner had to choose a small, medium or large toy, as you can see in the pictures.
We weren’t allowed to use sticky tape or glue and we weren’t allowed to cut the paper.

We also worked on the 4C’s that are communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking.

Happy Holidays everyone!
From 3/4's

See you back in Term 2
on Monday 13th April!
