Grade 3/4 Camp

GRADE 3/4 CAMP

On the 2nd of May the grade 3/4 went to Golden Valleys Lodge. We were split into four groups, Kangaroos and the Echidnas went on one bus and the Wallabies and the Echidnas went on another.

When we arrived the owner called Andrea explained the do’s and don’ts and also showed us to our cabins. The girls and boys settled down, prepared their beds and then gathered around in the dinning room.

Later that day we partnered up and got an orienteering card.

This had a picture of an object that was zoomed in closely. In partners, we needed to find what and where the object was located using the camp map.

Soon after that was the first and second rotation. Some of the activities were Low Ropes, Archery, Flying Fox, Team Building, Trampolining and Mountain Biking. They were very fun and exciting especially the Flying Fox.

My favourite food was the yummy spaghetti bolognas. My favourite dessert was an apple crumble with cream, yum!

The rest of camp was really fun with lots of memorable activities, I enjoyed putting on my warm clothes, grabbing our torches ready for a night walk. We can’t wait for next year and hope for the same!

Westside Circus

The Westside Circus

On the 21st of May, the grade 3/4 walked across to the Westside Circus for education week. The circus presenters were called Rocky and Sal and they taught us some fun new ways to learn maths through circus tricks!

First we learnt about patterns by counting by threes watching juggling. This also taught us a little bit about multiplication. There were many fun tricks such as taking hats off each other. We also made a new unit of measurement called Ballamgundersons, named after Miles.

Then we got to walk the tight rope and see how many "Balaamgunderson's" we got to. Most of us kept on getting 3 and-a-half "Balaamgunderson's." At the end we all made gigantic human pyramid where we all balanced on each other.

The Westside Circus was a big success because it was lots of fun and very educational.

Sunday 24 May 2015

Hi, I’m Reeshad and I’m in grade 3.

Everyday at school I take the chicken food to the chickens at lunchtime. We have a special bin for chicken food in our classroom kitchen.

We throw food in there that we don’t like to eat like sandwich filling scraps, noodle scraps and bread scraps, but no liquid.

Sometimes I see many sandwiches and noodles when I carry the chicken bin. The chickens love their food. I take the chicken bin downstairs into the playground to the hen house where the chickens live.

I ask one of the teachers who is on yard duty to open the hen-house gate for me. When they open it, I go inside and give the food to the chickens; after that I wash the bin and I take the chicken bin back to my class.

I like to take care of the chickens. I love them and I think they like me too!

Where is Henry this week?

ANZAC DAY
By Milla, Year 3J

I looked up and saw the grey sky and yellow twinkling stars which the soldiers would have looked at a hundred years ago. I heard my mother calling my name so I raced though the crispy, cold grass and went inside my warm house. I went to the kitchen where my Mum was cooking dinner and asked her if I could go to grandma’s house. She said “Yes.”

So I jumped over the fence, knocked on the door and my Grandma answered. She took me to the kitchen and said, “So Milla you want to learn about your Great-great Grandpa?”  “Yes,” I answered.

She could see I was staring at the picture of Herbert, my Great-great Grandpa so she took down the six medals that belonged to him. Carefully we stroked the medals then Grandma with a whisper said, “we are very lucky to have these.” She put the medals back on the wall and said, “you should go home now.”

I jumped back over the fence and at dinner I asked Dad if he knew about Herbert but he replied that he didn’t.  I snuggled into my bed and dreamt about Herbert. The next day I was going to be speaking for our school assembly about anything. I decided to speak about war because I knew a lot about it. I also wanted to speak about Herbert and what I knew about him.  When I got home, I went to my desk and wrote a speech.

I decided to visit my Grandma to show her my speech. She said it was fantastic. The next day everyone lined up for assembly. When it was my turn, I wasn’t scared because the soldiers who would have fought in the war would have been more nervous than me. I took a deep breath and did my speech.

When I got home, Grandma was waiting for me. She told me a poem that I will never forget. It goes like this:

Here are the soldiers that fought for us.
Bravery and courage, in all of them.
Poppies bright red, full of blood and dirt from the battlefields.
Relatives loved and died.
We will never forget.

During the week we learnt about our ANZAC soldiers who represented us during WW1. We made poppies to commemorate our ANZAC's.

Thanks Okky's mum Sascha, for helping us to make poppies! [See Below]
